pH question

Life on our planet depends on an adequate pH level; human life, for example, requires maintaining a slightly alkaline pH range between 7.35 and 7.45 for the correct function of vital cycles and sustaining life. (1)

Over the last 100 years, with the rise of industrialization, the pH of the ocean has decreased from 8.2 to 8.1 as a result of the increase in CO2 concentration, this has caused a very negative impact on aquatic life, and probably It is responsible for the collapse of some coral reefs. (2)

The pH of the soils where plants for human consumption are grown have also suffered the effects of acidification, the calcium/magnesium ratio has decreased, potassium levels and their relationship with sodium have also been affected and chloride has increased. in relation to bicarbonate, having an impact on the food we consume and the animals destined for human consumption. (3)

It is recognized and accepted that our current diet is poor in minerals such as magnesium and potassium, as well as low in fiber and very rich in saturated fats, hydrogenated fats, refined sugars, preservatives, ultra-processed foods and other chemicals of an acidic nature and with pro-inflammatory effect. The modern diet is leading us to an environment of acidity with the consequent increase in diseases that have an inflammatory component and are nourished by acidity, diabetes, cerebral vascular disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, arthritis, among many others. A lot of science, a lot of medicine but no resources allocated to prevention or rather to education to raise awareness about maintaining health. But let's continue with the diet, an excess of protein of animal origin generates a high acid load at the kidney level which can lead to the loss of minerals from the bone if it is not stabilized with the intake of foods or supplements rich in alkali. (5). On the other hand, an adequate protein intake is necessary to prevent osteoporosis and sarcopenia; once again, the intake of vegetables and fruits of an alkaline nature will be necessary to adjust the pH. (6)

Alkaline water

Recently, the consumption of alkaline water has gained a lot of popularity, and what is the difference with regular water? It is a type of water with a higher pH than regular water, we are talking about water with a pH between 8 and 9. Alkaline water regularly offers important minerals for our body, calcium; potassium is necessary for our bones and teeth, in addition to intervening in the cardiovascular system; helps in muscle contraction and relaxation, sodium; necessary for the control of blood pressure, fluid balance, muscle movement and magnesium, which helps convert our food into energy, maintains muscle mass, nerves, heart and kidney function

Alkaline water helps improve our blood circulation, in 2016 a study published in the Journal of International Society of Sport Nutrition showed that drinking alkaline water reduces blood viscosity by 6.3%, regular water only achieved 3.36 % reduction. (8).

Alkaline water reduces stomach acid reflux, a study carried out at “The Voice Institute of New York” showed that drinking alkaline water helps improve the symptoms of gastric acid reflux. (9)

Likewise, alkaline water has been shown to hydrate your body much better than regular water. A study published in “The Journal of the International Society of Sports Medicine” showed that alkaline water not only increases the body's alkalinity but improves hydration to a much greater extent than regular water (10)

Some preliminary studies have shown that alkaline water can help balance blood sugar, and this has been shown in studies carried out in China (11) and others published in “life sciences” (12)

Finally, we cannot overlook the effect of alkaline water on bone health. It has been shown that the modern acidifying diet increases the loss of bone mass, and an alkaline diet helps preserve mineral wealth and bone health. Some studies suggest that alkaline water helps maintain healthy and strong bones by acting on certain hormones. One such study conducted in Switzerland showed that drinking alkaline water decreases the level of parathyroid hormone, which causes bone to release calcium into the circulation. (13)

The recommendation

Balance is the key to health, start by incorporating a large amount of vegetables, fruits, fiber into your daily diet, reduce or eliminate highly processed foods, eliminate alcohol consumption, bottled juices, canned juices, soft drinks, reduce coffee consumption and black tea. Green juice or liquid chlorophyll are excellent choices for our health, mix kiwi with spinach and lettuce or pineapple with cucumber and spinach or perhaps a detoxifying one with lemon, parsley and spinach, add 1 tablespoon of liquid chlorophyll to the water, make sure to select a manufactured one by a recognized company that offers quality control.

Drink alkaline water but do not abuse it. The recommendation is to drink at least 3 glasses a day, remember that alkaline water decreases the activity of the enzyme pepsin, which is important for our digestion and health in general.

All of us, and even more so if we find ourselves suffering from a disease condition, should be informed of the importance of food, water, and the nutritional supplements we consume and their impact on our health and the stabilization or healing process. Finally, if you are interested in purchasing an alkaline water filter, I invite you to stop by the store, on this same website, if you have questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
